What we fix on Frigidaire refrigerators.

/01

SY EF (5Y EF) evaporator-fan fault

A SY EF, shown on some displays as 5Y EF, is a system evaporator-fan fault — the fridge warms while the freezer may stay cold and a clicking or whirring comes from the freezer. An iced-over or blocked evaporator fan, a failed fan motor, wiring, or the control board; the fan and the defrost are tested.

/02

SY CE (5Y CE) communication error

A SY CE, also rendered 5Y CE, means the control boards are not communicating at power-up. A loose harness, a failed main control board, or a failed user-interface board; the connections are reseated and the boards tested before either is replaced with a genuine OEM part.

/03

dF defrost circuit fault

A dF means the control sees an open defrost circuit, which leads to frost buildup and warming. A failed defrost heater, defrost thermostat or bi-metal, or a board relay; the defrost components are tested directly so the correct part is fitted.

/04

SH / OP sensor fault

An SH means a freezer thermistor is shorted and an OP means a thermistor reads open (or a door is sensed open). The named thermistor and its wiring are tested against spec; the sensor is a DIY-friendly part once the fault is confirmed at the harness.

/05

H1 / HI high-temperature alarm

An H1 or HI means a compartment stayed above its safe temperature for over an hour. A door left open, a recent power loss, or overpacked vents clears on its own, but if the alarm persists a fan, defrost, or sealed-system fault is diagnosed before parts are fitted.

/06

Not cooling / cabinet too warm

The cabinet drifts warm even on a colder setting, with no code shown. A frosted evaporator from a failed defrost component, a stalled evaporator fan, dirty condenser coils, or a worn door gasket; the defrost circuit and the airflow path are tested before any sealed-system work is considered.

/07

No ice or DISP ice-jam alarm

The ice maker stops producing or a DISP alarm sounds because ice has jammed the dispenser chute. A clogged PureSource water filter, a frozen fill tube, a failed inlet valve, or a stuck ice-maker module; the filter, the line, and the valve are tested, and the chute thawed and cleared.

/08

Water leaking or running constantly

Water collects under the crisper or on the floor, or the compressor runs without cycling off. A clogged defrost drain that freezes and overflows, a worn gasket, dirty condenser coils, or a failing fan; the drain is cleared and the coils, gasket, and fans checked before the compressor is condemned.

These are the most common issues — not an exhaustive list. Our technicians diagnose and repair any Frigidaire refrigerator problem, including intermittent faults, unusual symptoms, and issues not listed here.

About Frigidaire refrigerator repair

Common Frigidaire refrigerator problems

Dependable frigidaire refrigerator repair starts with the way these units are designed — a French-door FRFS or Gallery GRFS, a side-by-side FFSS or GRSS, a top-freezer FFTR, or a Professional PRMC, each built around EvenTemp Cooling, the CrispSeal crisper, PureAir Ultra II air filtration, and the PureSource water filter. Unlike Frigidaire ovens and washers, refrigerators show only a small set of display alerts, so many faults are read by symptom. The calls we see most are a cabinet that is not cooling or runs too warm, a SY EF evaporator-fan fault, a dF defrost fault with frost buildup, no ice or a DISP ice-jam alarm at the dispenser, water leaking from a clogged defrost drain, and a compressor that runs constantly. EvenTemp variable-speed cooling, SpaceWise shelving, the Cool-Zone drawer, and Auto-Close doors keep food fresh, but evaporator fans, defrost heaters, gaskets, thermistors, and inlet valves still wear with use.

Frigidaire Refrigerator Repair — Frigidaire appliance repair

Our Frigidaire refrigerator repair process

As an independent, third-party service our experienced technicians begin every Frigidaire refrigerator repair by confirming the exact model and configuration, because a French-door FRFS, a side-by-side FFSS, and a top-freezer FFTR fail differently. A not-cooling complaint is traced through the defrost circuit, the evaporator fan, the condenser coils, and the door gasket before any sealed-system work is ever considered. A SY EF alert sends the technician to the evaporator fan and the defrost; a SY CE to the harness and boards; a dF to the defrost heater and thermostat; and an SH or OP to the named thermistor, which is tested against spec at the harness. We fit genuine OEM parts from trusted parts suppliers, and every visit is backed by a 30-day labor warranty on the workmanship. Most repairs are completed in a single trip, and you can book a refrigerator repair online at any time. A clear quote is given before work begins, and the total cost depends on the diagnosis — pricing starts from a trip-and-diagnostic fee, and we never quote a fixed repair price sight unseen.

Frigidaire refrigerator models we service

We service the Frigidaire refrigerator lineup across every configuration. French-door models include the FRFS2823AS, GRFS2853AF, FGHB2868TF, FRFG1723AV, and the Professional PRMC2285AF; side-by-side models include the FFSS2615TS, GRSS2652AF, and FRSS2623AS; and top-freezer and bottom-freezer models include the FFTR1835VS, FFHT2045VS, the apartment-size FFET1222UV, and the bottom-freezer FRBG1224AV. We also handle discontinued builds as repair-lookup work. These refrigerators carry EvenTemp Cooling, the CrispSeal or CrispSeal Plus crisper, PureAir Ultra II, the PureSource 3 or PureSource Ultra II water filter, SpaceWise shelving, the Cool-Zone or Custom-Flex temp drawer, and Auto-Close doors. Our model directory lists the evaporator fans, defrost heaters, thermistors, inlet valves, ice-maker modules, gaskets, and control boards matched to each specific build so the correct genuine OEM part is sourced the first time. Because EvenTemp uses a variable-speed compressor and the French-door and side-by-side builds route cold air differently from a top-freezer, an airflow or fan fault presents differently on each, so we confirm the configuration before testing. On a model with a through-the-door dispenser the water line, the inlet valve, and the dispenser actuator are also checked as a set so a no-water complaint is solved completely.

Error codes and diagnostics

A Frigidaire refrigerator is diagnosed mostly by symptom, because the display carries only a small set of alerts — and the display renders the letter “S” as a “5”, so the same code appears two ways. SY EF (5Y EF) is an evaporator-fan fault; SY CE (5Y CE) and 5Y CF are communication faults at power-up; dF is an open defrost circuit; SH is a shorted freezer thermistor and OP an open sensor or a door read open; H1 or HI is a high-temperature alarm; DISP is an ice-jam alarm at the chute; and PF flags a prior power failure. OF (off mode), SB (Sabbath mode), and 77 (demo mode) are features rather than faults and are simply toggled back. Everything else — not cooling, frost buildup, no ice, water leaking — is a symptom traced to a real part. Look up what each one means on our refrigerator error-code guides.

Service areas

Our specialist technicians cover all 50 states and the District of Columbia plus 40-plus metro areas, with a standard 24-48 hour response and same-day visits where availability allows. Frigidaire helped pioneer the self-contained home refrigerator, and a fridge built around EvenTemp Cooling and the CrispSeal system deserves a technician who treats it with that same practical care. Every visit is handled by a skilled technician who carries the diagnostic tools and the genuine OEM parts most likely needed, so the fault is identified and, wherever possible, fixed on the first trip. Full specifications and the current refrigerator lineup are published by the manufacturer at frigidaire.com. Find your area on our service locations page, browse step-by-step help in our repair guides, or book any service through the scheduling page.
