When a frigidaire dishwasher not cleaning sends you back to the sink with gritty glasses and food still stuck on plates, the cause is almost never a failing machine. On Frigidaire models with the OrbitClean Spray Arm and DishSense Technology, poor results trace to water that is not reaching the dishes with enough force, heat, or detergent, and every one of those has a simple cause you can check.
Before you blame the dishwasher, it helps to remember that cleaning depends on three things working together: clean, unobstructed spray; water hot enough to dissolve grease; and fresh detergent in the right amount. Knock out any one of them and the wash falls flat.
Why a frigidaire dishwasher not cleaning happens
The OrbitClean arm sweeps water across the rack through tiny jets. When those jets clog with food, mineral scale, or bits of label, the spray pattern collapses and whole sections of the rack get missed. A dirty filter recirculates greasy water, hard water leaves a chalky film, and incoming water below roughly 120 F never softens the grease in the first place. Overloading and nesting items so they block the spray finishes the job.
First checks you can do
- Pull the lower OrbitClean spray arm and the upper arm, then clear each jet with a toothpick and rinse them out.
- Twist out and rinse the filter and glass trap; a greasy filter is a leading cause of poor results.
- Run the kitchen tap until it is hot before starting the cycle, so the dishwasher fills with hot water from the first fill.
- Use fresh detergent and keep the rinse-aid reservoir topped up; old or caked detergent cleans poorly, and an empty reservoir triggers the LO rinse-aid alert.
- Reload so tall items do not block the spray arms and nothing nests together.
Confirm whether the next wash improves before going further. A monthly run with a dishwasher cleaner also strips the hard-water film that dulls results over time, which we cover in the filter and care guide.
Hard water and cloudy glassware
If glasses come out cloudy rather than dirty, you are usually seeing mineral deposits, not poor cleaning. Topping up rinse aid and running a citric-acid or dishwasher-cleaner cycle clears most film. A water softener in hard-water areas makes a lasting difference and protects the Stainless Steel Tub and the heating element from scale.
When it is a part, not a habit
If the arms and filter are clean, the water is hot, and results are still poor, the fault may be a worn wash pump, a failed soil sensor, a cracked spray arm, or a heating element that is not warming the water. The i60 water-heating code points at the heater or thermistor. These need testing rather than swapping, so it is worth a proper diagnosis.
