- Wipe the door gasket. On front-load models, fold back the rubber door boot and wipe out trapped water, lint, and debris. This is where musty smells start.
- Leave the door ajar. After the last load of the day, leave the door and the detergent drawer open so the drum and seal dry out instead of breeding mildew.
- Do not overdose detergent. Use only HE detergent and the recommended amount. Excess suds leave residue, cause odor, and can trip the EF2 over-sudsing prompt.
- Wipe the drawer. Rinse the dispenser drawer occasionally to clear caked detergent and softener.
A monthly deep clean
Once a month, run a dedicated tub-clean or sanitize cycle, or a hot cycle with a washing-machine cleaner or a measured amount of white vinegar, with the drum empty. This strips the film and biofilm that build up in the tub and behind the gasket, which detergent alone cannot reach. While you are at it, pull out the dispenser drawer and rinse it, and run a finger around the gasket again. Clear the drain-pump filter
Every month or two, clean the drain-pump filter behind the small access panel at the lower front of the washer. It traps coins, lint, and small items before they reach the pump, and a clogged filter is the leading cause of slow draining and the E21 and EF1 codes. Keep the washer level so it does not rock and stress the tub, do not leave wet laundry sitting in the drum, and check the inlet hoses once a year for bulges or cracks, replacing them every few years as a precaution.
