TL;DR: Frigidaire dishwasher error codes start with i. i10 is fill, i20, i40 and iF0 are one drain problem seen three ways, i30 is water in the base pan, i50 is the motor, i60 is heat, iC0 is board communication.

Frigidaire dishwasher error codes all start with a lower-case i, and that single letter is the most useful thing about them. The i tells you the control board is reporting a condition it measured itself — water that never arrived, water that never left, water that never warmed up, a motor that did not turn, or a panel that stopped answering. Read the second character and you know which of those five stories you are in, and roughly how urgent it is.

i10Not enough incoming water was sensed during the fill window. Supply, inlet valve, float.
i20Water stayed in the tub past the drain window — a clogged filter or drain line.
i30Water reached the base pan and the anti-flood float tripped. Stop and look for a leak.
i40Same drain-restriction family as i20 and iF0. Treat it as a drain problem.
i50The wash or drain motor is not running correctly.
i60The water did not reach its target temperature in time.
iC0The control panel and the main board have lost communication with each other.
iF0Grouped with i20 and i40 as the same drain-restriction condition.

What do the i codes on a Frigidaire dishwasher mean?

Three of the eight codes — i20, i40 and iF0 — describe one physical situation from three angles: the tub did not empty inside the time the control allowed. That is why chasing them separately wastes an evening. If you see any of the three, the filter, the sump and the drain hose are the job, in that order, and the fix for one is the fix for all three.

The remaining five each point somewhere different. i10 is about water coming in, i30 about water where it should never be, i50 about the motor that moves it, i60 about the heater that warms it, and iC0 about the two boards that are supposed to talk to each other. Knowing that split before you open anything is the difference between a twenty-minute clean and an afternoon of guessing.

Why do i20, i40 and iF0 keep coming back?

A Frigidaire dishwasher drains through a fine filter, a sump, a drain pump and a hose that must rise into an air gap or a high loop before it reaches the disposal or the standpipe. Every one of those is a place for a restriction, and the control cannot tell which one it is — it only knows the water level did not fall.

In service the order that pays is: filter first, because it holds the debris from every cycle; then the sump, where labels, seeds and glass chips settle under the filter; then the drain hose loop, which sags over the years and holds a slug of water; then the disposal knockout plug, which is still in place on a surprising number of new installations and blocks the line completely. Our filter cleaning guide covers the first two properly, and the not-draining guide walks the rest of the path.

The filter cup and the sump beneath it are where i20, i40 and iF0 are settled or confirmed — three codes, one passage.

What should I do when i30 appears?

Treat i30 differently from the rest. The other codes describe a cycle that did not finish; i30 means water has already collected in the base pan under the tub and a float has lifted to stop it going further. The control may run the drain pump on its own and refuse every program until the pan is dry.

Turn off the dishwasher at the breaker and shut the water supply valve under the sink before anything else. Then look for the source: the door gasket, the lower spray arm seal, a loosened hose clamp, the inlet valve, or the pump seal. A cabinet floor that is still damp a day later is telling you the leak is live.

🔴 The base pan and the water lines are the one part of this machine we ask readers to stop at. Working under a dishwasher means working next to a live supply line and a door latch assembly that holds spring tension. If the pan refills after you dry it, the leak is upstream of anything you can reach from the front.

Is i10 a supply problem or a machine problem?

Start outside the dishwasher. Open the supply valve fully — a valve closed halfway during a sink repair is the single most common cause — and check that the braided fill line is not kinked behind the cabinet. If the house has just had work done on the water main, an aerator-style screen in the inlet valve may have caught debris.

If the supply is good, the fault moves inward to the inlet valve itself or to the float switch that tells the control how much water arrived. Both are serviceable parts, and both are behind the lower access panel, which is exactly where the door spring cable runs. That is a call, not a Saturday project.

Do i50 and i60 mean a new dishwasher?

Usually not. i50 says the wash or drain motor is not turning as commanded, and on these machines that is frequently a jammed impeller rather than a dead motor — a shard of glass or a fruit sticker wedged where the vanes turn. A motor that hums and stops is telling a different story from one that is silent.

i60 says the water never reached temperature inside the time allowed. Before condemning the heater, check the household supply: a dishwasher fed by a long cold run has to heat every gallon from scratch, and a water heater set low makes the job impossible. Frigidaire wash systems, including the OrbitClean spray arm described in our spray arm guide, depend on hot water to do what they were designed to do.

What does iC0 mean and can I clear it?

iC0 is the communication code: the touch panel on the door and the main control board in the base are no longer exchanging messages. The harness between them runs through the door hinge, and the hinge is a flexing joint, so a chafed wire there is a real possibility on an older machine. Moisture in the panel connector is the other common cause.

The one thing worth trying yourself is a full power cycle: switch the breaker off, wait five minutes so the boards fully discharge, then restore power and start a short cycle without touching any other buttons. If iC0 returns immediately, the fault is in the harness or a board, and both need the door disassembled.

When should you stop and call?

Call when i30 comes back after the pan has been dried, when i20, i40 or iF0 survive a properly cleaned filter and a verified drain loop, when i50 returns after the impeller has been checked, or when iC0 reappears after a power cycle. Those four patterns mean a part has failed rather than a passage being blocked.
